Barcelona are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven in the summer transfer window, as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of next season, according to reports.
The Spanish champions are keen to address their defensive vulnerabilities, which has been constantly exposed by Hansi Flick’s high defensive line and are ready to add a left-footed centre-back to their options.
The five-time European champions had previously explored a deal for Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, but the move has proved difficult to complete.
They have now shifted their focus to Van de Ven, who could become available in the summer.
The 24-year-old has impressed since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has established himself as one of the North London club’s most consistent and reliable performers.
Although the Netherlands international is under contract until 2029, his long-term future at Spurs remains uncertain and there is a high possibility he leaves the club in the summer, especially if they suffer relegation into the second division.
However, Barcelona are unlikely to have a clear run at his signature. La Liga rivals Real Madrid are also monitoring the Dutch defender as part of a major defensive rebuild as we earlier reported, while Premier League champions Liverpool are also understood to be interested.
A switch to Barcelona could be appealing for Van de Ven given the club’s regular challenge for major trophies and the chance to work under a very experienced manager. However, the club’s financial constraints could be a major obstacle in getting the deal over the line.
