Barcelona are open to listening to offers for defender Gerard Martín this summer as they look to generate funds to reinforce their squad.
The Catalan giants are understood to be prioritising the signing of a new centre-forward ahead of next season. However, doing so will require freeing up salary space and raising transfer funds, a familiar challenge for the La Liga champions in recent years.
According to The Touchline, sporting director Deco and the club’s hierarchy are now considering the sale of at least one player who is not deemed untouchable. One name that has emerged is 23-year-old Spanish defender Gerard Martín.
Martín was previously linked with a move away from Camp Nou last summer, attracting interest from Premier League sides. However, he ultimately remained at the club following Iñigo Martínez’s departure, providing much-needed defensive depth.
This season, the versatile defender has featured 32 times across all competitions, splitting his appearances between left-back and left-sided centre-back. His adaptability has proven valuable, particularly in rotation-heavy periods.
AC Milan are now keen on securing his services, with the Rossoneri eager to strengthen the left side of their defence ahead of the new campaign.
Although Barcelona appreciate his contributions, their financial reality could force their hand. The report suggests the Blaugrana would seriously consider offers in the region of €30 million for the Spain youth international.
Martín only signed a contract extension last year, committing his future to the club until 2028, with a hefty €100 million release clause included in the deal. However, given Barcelona’s ongoing financial balancing act, a bid around €30 million may prove tempting.
Whether Milan formalises their interest remains to be seen, but Martín’s situation could become one to watch as Barcelona seeks to reshape their squad this summer.
