FC Barcelona have increased their efforts to sign Marcos Senesi, with the Catalan side moving more actively around the Bournemouth defender as they plan for the next transfer window.
Senesi is entering the final months of his contract at AFC Bournemouth, and that situation has shaped the pace of developments. He reportedly informed Bournemouth he will not be signing a new contract.
Barcelona’s interest is understood to be in line with their search for a left-footed central defender who can add balance and experience to their back line. Recruitment staff have assessed several profiles, but Senesi has come up strongly due to his availability and record in England.
Reports indicate that the Spanish side have “accelerated talks” in recent weeks, with the prospect of joining the club catching his attention, even with strong interest from the Premier League.
Since joining from Feyenoord in August 2022, the Argentine has surpassed the 100-match mark in league football for the Cherries. This season, he has started every Premier League game he has been available for.
Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle, and Tottenham have tracked his contract situation across the season, but none are reported to have moved with the same clarity as Barcelona.
From Italy, Juventus and Napoli also see him as an option when he becomes available on a free transfer. In La Liga, Atlético Madrid have also monitored the situation, but Barcelona are seen as the side applying the most pressure at this stage.
His departure would be a blow to Bournemouth, who also lost Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid last summer.
