Mason Greenwood has spent two seasons at Marseille putting the darkest chapter of his career behind him, and the numbers he has produced in France have drawn an inevitable queue of suitors.
Atletico Madrid are now at the front of it, ready to spend big to bring him to the Spanish capital this summer.
The 24-year-old joined Marseille in the summer of 2024 for £26.6 million after United decided to sell him following the controversy that had engulfed his time at Old Trafford.
Roberto De Zerbi made him central to everything at the Stade Velodrome, and Greenwood responded by scoring 22 goals in his first season in France, sharing the Ligue 1 Golden Boot.
This season has been even more remarkable. He has 25 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances, making him one of the most decisive forwards in European football.
In January, he became the first Marseille player in 15 seasons to be directly involved in five goals in a single match, scoring a hat-trick and assisting twice in their French Cup thrashing of Bayeux.
Per Fichajes, Atletico Madrid view Greenwood as the ideal profile for Diego Simeone’s attack and are prepared to put together a package worth up to €100 million to get the deal done.
His time on loan at Getafe in 2023/24 has only made him a more attractive prospect in Spain, having already proven he can handle La Liga football.
Simeone is said to be personally driving the pursuit, believing Greenwood can give his side an edge they have been lacking in wide areas.
