Aston Villa Injury News Update – Kamara, Martínez, Onana, And Barkley

According to latest Aston Villa injury news update released by Unai Emery, Aston Villa face a setback ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Everton at Villa Park, with midfielder Boubacar Kamara ruled out after picking up a knee injury during last weekend’s FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Unai Emery confirmed the French midfielder’s condition is still being assessed, with the possibility of a lengthy spell on the sideline.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who missed the FA Cup tie in north London, will also undergo a late fitness test to determine if he can feature against Everton. The former Arsenal stopper is reportedly progressing well, but Emery said his availability will only be decided closer to kick-off.

Midfielders Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley also remain sidelined. Onana is edging closer to a return, potentially rejoining training within the next week, while Barkley will require more time before resuming match action. January signing Alysson is still unavailable, struggling with ongoing pain.

Unai Emery, who recently won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for December 2025, provided a full update during Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“Kamara, of course, is out. It’s his knee. We’re checking him, he’s visiting some doctors as well. We’re going to know about him in a few days,” he said.

On his other absentees, the 54-year-old added, “Onana is not available for Sunday, he’s ruled out. Barkley as well is ruled out. Both are progressing very well. In a few weeks, maybe Onana even next week, they can be training with us. Ross Barkley will need maybe some time more. Alysson is still being a little bit in pain and is not ready for Sunday. Emiliano Martínez is progressing well but tomorrow we’ll assess him if he’ll be available for Sunday or not.”

The Midlands outfit will have to adjust their squad as they aim to protect their top-three Premier League position. Sitting third, the Spanish tactician faces a challenge in managing his options against an Everton side struggling for consistency, with the clash promising to test the depth and strength of his squad.
