Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has been made available for transfer this summer after intermediaries told clubs that the 23‑year‑old is ready to consider an exit from the Spanish side, with Arsenal among the teams being briefed on his availability.
Williams signed a long‑term contract with the Basque club in July 2025 that runs until 2035 and includes a high release clause. That extension last year came after strong interest from Barcelona, who explored signing him before Athletic agreed on new terms that raised his market value.
The Athletic academy graduate has made more than 180 senior appearances for the first team since coming through La Lezama and has been productive in La Liga with regular goals and assists from wide positions.
He has also featured for Spain on over 20 occasions and scored in the UEFA European Championship final in 2024, where La Roja lifted the trophy.
TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey reports that top teams, including the Gunners, have been briefed on Williams’s potential availability.
In a more recent development, though, the winger’s current campaign with the Spanish club has been interrupted by a groin injury, and he is set to undergo treatment that will keep him out ‘indefinitely.’ That could affect transfer timing and negotiations, and clubs gauging interest are aware of his rehab status.
Athletic Bilbao’s domestic form has shown mixed results, including a recent 1‑0 loss in the Copa del Rey semi‑final first leg against Real Sociedad.
