Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has thrown his support behind Michael Carrick, insisting the former club captain is “the right man” to take charge permanently following an impressive interim spell at Old Trafford.
Carrick stepped in after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January and has since overseen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes.
United have climbed to third in the Premier League table under his guidance, placing themselves firmly in contention for a return to the Champions League next season.
Speaking during the club’s training camp near Dublin, Amad made it clear that the dressing room has been impressed by Carrick’s leadership.
“Obviously, it’s not for us as players to decide his future, but he’s been very great, he’s been doing so much for the team,” Amad said in quotes revealed by The Independent UK.
“He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. We think he’s the right man, but we are really happy for what he’s doing right now.”
The Ivorian winger highlighted Carrick’s clarity of purpose and winning mentality since taking charge.
“Since he’s arrived, he’s been clear to everyone that he wants to win, he wants to reach the Champions League next season, working with each player. He’s been doing really well, and we’re really happy to have him as the manager.
“Sometimes this kind of manager can bring a club where they belong. From my personal side, he’s the right man, but it’s not the players who decide.”
Carrick has won seven of his first 10 matches in charge, restoring confidence and tactical balance after a turbulent period earlier in the campaign.
His familiarity with the club, both as a former captain and long-serving midfielder, has been viewed as a key factor in United’s resurgence.
Forward Bryan Mbeumo, who joined United last summer, echoed Amad’s sentiments.
“We’ve got good experience with him, playing under him as well,” Mbeumo said.
“As Amad said, it’s not for us to decide, but we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him.
“He knows the DNA of the club, he knows how to talk to us as well. I think it’s been easier because he knows the place. It’s been great to work under him.”
United’s upturn in form has reignited hopes of Champions League football next season — a key objective after missing out previously.
For players like Mbeumo, who arrived despite the club’s absence from European competition, securing a top-four finish would validate their commitment.
“Joining United was a big thing for me,” he added. “I’m someone who likes challenges, and coming here was one of the challenges I fixed myself.
“Getting the reward at the end of the season would be a great moment.
“It’s clear to everyone that with the position we are now, we want to finish as strongly as possible and reach the top positions in the table. Hopefully, we can play in the Champions League.”
With the players publicly backing Carrick and results continuing to improve, the pressure is mounting on the United hierarchy to make a definitive decision about the managerial role.
