Al Ittihad revive pursuit of Mohamed Salah as Liverpool exit nears

Premier League, EFL continue Ramadan match pauses for Muslim players

Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad have renewed their interest in signing Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah, following the announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Premier League champions confirmed earlier this week that the 33-year-old will leave the club once the season runs out, despite having signed a two-year contract extension last season, making him available on a free transfer.

Salah returned to England in 2017 to join Liverpool from Italian club AS Roma, after a previous stint at Chelsea and has since enjoyed a hugely successful nine-year spell at Liverpool.

The two-time African Footballer of the Year has scored 255 goals for the Reds so far, placing him third on the club’s all-time scoring list, while his 191 Premier League goals rank him fourth in league history.

Salah has also collected multiple trophies and individual awards over the years, including a joint-record four Premier League Golden Boot awards.

According to ESPN, Al Ittihad are now preparing another offer to bring Salah to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The Saudi heavyweights have made previous attempts to sign the Egyptian, including a staggering £150 million bid in 202,3 which was rejected by Liverpool.

They now have a very high chance to sign him on a free transfer, as they look to strengthen their attack and properly replace Karim Benzema, who joined rivals Al Hilal during the winter transfer window.

Salah’s next destination remains unknown, but his main focus will be to finish the season strongly and help Liverpool secure Champions League qualification.

However, a lucrative offer from Al Ittihad could prove hard to resist, giving the Saudi giants a marquee signing to bolster their squad ahead of next season.
