Italian giants AC Milan have revived their pursuit of Nathan Ake ahead of the summer transfer window, with the defender potentially heading for the exit at Manchester City.
The Netherlands international has struggled for regular playing time due to injuries and the intense competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s squad, and a move away from the club is looking increasingly likely at the end of the season.
Ake joined City from Bournemouth in 2020 in a deal worth about £40 million, but has seen his impact at the club limited by injuries.
The 31-year-old has made just 24 Premier League appearances across the last two campaigns, including four starts this season. Although he has been previously linked with moves away from the club, a departure could finally happen this summer.
According to reports from Tribal Football, AC Milan are preparing to make another attempt to sign the defender when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The seven-time European champions are expected to strengthen their defence this summer, as they aim to add experience and quality while pushing to compete for major honours again.
The Rossoneri showed interest last summer and approached Manchester City for his signature, although they could not meet the club’s valuation and eventually turned their attention to other targets.
Manchester City could consider a sale this time around, especially with Ake set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season and could decide to cash in rather than risk losing him for free.
This could give AC Milan another opportunity to land their prized target, who will add top-level experience and versatility to the squad, given his ability to play at both centre-back and left-back.
