Inter Milan plotting summer swoop for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin

Inter Milan are considering a summer move for Real Madrid’s second-choice goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin as the club begin planning for potential changes in their goalkeeping department ahead of next season.

According to reports, the Nerazzurri have maintained a long-standing interest in the Real Madrid shot-stopper and could step up their pursuit once the transfer window opens.

Inter are currently assessing the market for a possible successor to veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer, whose contract situation has prompted the club to explore long-term options between the sticks.

Lunin has emerged as a potential candidate despite seeing limited action in recent months per reports from Defensa Central.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper played a key role for Real Madrid during the 2023/2024 campaign, delivering a series of impressive performances when called upon. However, opportunities have once again been scarce this season.

The primary obstacle standing in Lunin’s way is the continued dominance of Thibaut Courtois, who remains the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at the Santiago Bernabeu and has retained that status despite managerial changes in the dugout, from Carlo Ancelotti to Xabi Alonso and, most recently, Alvaro Arbeloa.

Even though Lunin recently committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a contract extension, the reality on the pitch has left him with little opportunity to challenge for a regular starting role.

Courtois’ consistency and stature within the squad continue to make it extremely difficult for the Ukrainian to break into the lineup.

Real Madrid are reportedly aware of Lunin’s situation and would not stand in his way should he decide to seek a new challenge.

That stance could open the door for Inter Milan, who see the upcoming summer window as a potential opportunity to secure a high-quality goalkeeper at a reasonable price.
