Inter Miami CF are reportedly exploring the possibility of hijacking Antoine Griezmann’s long-anticipated move to Major League Soccer, with uncertainty growing around a proposed switch to Orlando City.
The French forward has been heavily linked with Orlando in recent months, but recent developments suggest the situation may be far from settled.
According to L’Équipe, Griezmann has decided to remain with Atletico Madrid until the end of the current campaign, meaning any potential MLS transfer would have to wait until the league’s summer window opens in July.
That delay has opened the door for rival clubs to enter the conversation. While Orlando still hold Griezmann’s discovery rights, the report claims Inter Miami and CF Montreal have both added the 34-year-old to their shortlist of possible summer reinforcements.
Only weeks ago, a move to Orlando appeared to be edging closer. Reports suggested the club were eager to finalise a deal before MLS’s primary transfer window closes on March 26, hoping to avoid a potential bidding battle later in the year.
However, their proposal was reportedly dependent on Griezmann joining immediately rather than waiting until the summer.
The forward ultimately opted against a mid-season departure following intervention from Atletico manager Diego Simeone and the club’s hierarchy.
With Atletico still competing in the Copa del Rey, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer is keen to see out the campaign and potentially win what will be his only trophy with Atleti before considering his next move.
Should Inter Miami decide to step up their pursuit later this year, Griezmann could find himself linking up with a familiar face in Lionel Messi.
The Frenchman would become the latest former FC Barcelona star to join the Argentine in South Florida, following Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.
