Newcastle United target Chemsdine Talbi as potential Anthony Gordon replacement

Newcastle United are lining up a summer move for Sunderland forward Chemsdine Talbi as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon, amid uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

As we earlier reported, Gordon has attracted serious interest in recent weeks especially from Premier League heavyweights Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, who are all willing to spend big to secure his signature.

The England international has been one of Newcastle United’s standout performers this season, scoring 14 goals across all competitions, with 10 of them coming in the UEFA Champions League, a tally only bettered by Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe with 13.

The 25-year-old is thought to be open to a move at the end of the season, especially if it gives him the chance to regularly compete for major trophies.

According to TeamTalk, Newcastle have identified Talbi as a leading replacement should Gordon depart St James’ Park at the end of the season. The Moroccan forward only joined Sunderland last summer in a deal worth up to £19 million from Belgian side Club Brugge, but could be on the move again after just one season.

The 20-year-old has settled quickly into life in the Premier League and has already scored three goals for the Black Cats this campaign.

He can also operate anywhere across the front three, as well as in the attacking midfield position, which would appeal greatly to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe.

The Magpies view Talbi as an ideal long-term option and his addition would represent a smart signing, although it might prove difficult to convince Sunderland into a sale, given his importance to the club.
