Antoine Griezmann puts MLS move on hold

Antoine Griezmann has reportedly pressed pause on a potential switch to Major League Soccer, opting instead to remain fully focused on his commitments with Atletico Madrid.

According to ESPN, the French superstar has placed a proposed move to Orlando City SC on hold — a decision that follows Atletico’s dramatic progression to the Copa del Rey final after edging FC Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate in the semifinals.

Reports last month suggested Orlando City had tabled an offer to bring Griezmann to MLS. However, the proposal was said to be conditional on completion during the league’s spring transfer window, which closes on March 26.

With Atletico’s season still very much alive and silverware within touching distance, Griezmann has decided that now is not the moment to leave.

The 34-year-old remains central to Atletico’s ambitions, particularly with the club chasing what would be a historic triumph.

Griezmann’s legacy in Madrid is already secure. Across two spells with Atletico (2014-2019 and 2021-2026), he has become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 210 goals in all competitions. Yet, despite his individual brilliance, he has never lifted a major trophy with the Rojiblancos.

That reality could be shaping his current thinking. With a Copa del Rey final on the horizon, the opportunity to finally add a domestic crown to his Atletico résumé may outweigh the allure of an American adventure — at least for now.

While major club honours in Madrid have proved elusive, Griezmann’s international career was nothing short of decorated.

He played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph and was named Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016 after scoring four goals en route to the final.

At the domestic level, Griezmann’s numbers underline his consistency. He has registered 297 goals across 787 La Liga appearances, spanning spells with Atletico and Barcelona.
