Rodrygo’s campaign at Real Madrid has been brought to an abrupt halt, with the Brazilian suffering a devastating injury to his right knee during the match against Getafe, confirmed as a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a tear to the lateral meniscus.
Medical tests indicate he will be sidelined for up to ten months, ruling him out for the remainder of the season and, heartbreakingly, the 2026 World Cup.
The incident happened just eleven minutes after he returned to the field, following a month-long layoff with tendinitis. After a sharp turn on the ball, Rodrygo fell awkwardly, immediately showing signs of pain.
Remarkably, he finished the game, but discomfort persisted, prompting the club to conduct detailed examinations the following morning. Real Madrid’s medical team confirmed the severity of the injury in an official statement.
The timing for the injury could hardly be worse. With Rodrygo joining the list of sidelined stars, including Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid’s attacking options are suddenly stretched to the bare minimum.
As we previously covered, the French forward continues to battle a persistent knee issue, with surgery still under consideration to protect his long-term fitness.
Now, with both forwards out, the responsibility falls even more on Vinicius Junior, Brahim Díaz, and Gonzalo Garcia.
Rehabilitation for Rodrygo will be long and exacting. The first weeks will focus on reducing inflammation and regaining mobility, followed by a painstaking rebuilding of strength in the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes to stabilise the knee.
The final stage will retrain the Brazilian to stop, turn, sprint, and absorb impacts without risking further damage.
Rodrygo must now face the long road back, rebuilding through physiotherapy and conditioning, to return to the level of sharpness and explosiveness that made him indispensable to Los Blancos.
