Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has provided fresh updates on the fitness status of some major injury absentees as the Red Devils prepare to host Crystal Palace for a Premier League match at Old Trafford.

United were without key players like Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton on Monday night.

Ahead of welcoming Palace to The Theater of Dreams, Carrick had some updates for the Manchester United faithful regarding the fitness situation of some of these stars.

De Ligt has been out of action since November last year, with his last appearance coming in United’s 2-1 win over Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Dutchman has been nursing a back injury, and Carrick confirmed that he’s yet to return to training.

Meanwhile, Mount has missed the last four games under Carrick after picking up a knock during training at the start of February.

However, the England international is edging closer to a comeback after making a return to training in the last few days.

The upcoming game against Crystal Palace might come too early for Mount, though, but he’ll definitely be in contention to make United’s travelling squad for next week’s trip to Newcastle United.

In the case of Martinez, the Argentine defender missed Manchester United’s narrow win over Everton after previously starting nine consecutive Premier League games. However, his issue is said to be a minor one, and he’s expected to return quickly.

Dorgu continues to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in the win over Arsenal last month, but there is hope within United that the Denmark international could be back before the end of the season.

Manchester United will be looking to record their sixth win in seven games under Carrick when they face Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils are currently fourth on the Premier League table and are just three points behind Aston Villa, who occupy third place.
