Real Madrid eye summer move for Tottenham defender Van de Ven

Van de Ven to Liverpool

Record European champions Real Madrid are weighing up a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, according to reports from TeamTalk.

The Netherlands international has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout centre-backs with his pace and consistency.

The 24-year-old is under contract at the North London club until 2029, having signed a six-year deal on his arrival.

However, there is growing uncertainty around his future and that of his centre-back partner Cristian Romero, especially if Tottenham fails to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid are expected to prioritise defensive additions in the summer and have made Van de Ven their top target, especially with the contracts of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba expiring at the end of the season.

The Spanish giants have already missed out on Dayot Upamecano, who we recently reported to have extended his stay at Bayern Munich.

They are also keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, while their long-standing interest in Ibrahima Konate remains, with the Liverpool defender also out of contract in the summer.

Meanwhile, they will face competition from Premier League champions Liverpool for his signature, given the Reds own battle to find a suitable replacement for Konate, who looks likely to leave when his contract expires in June.

Tottenham are under no immediate pressure to sell, but the defender’s ambitions could shape his next move.

For now, Real Madrid appear to be the most likely destination, with the move set to bring one of Europe’s quickest and most reliable defenders to the Spanish capital ahead of the new season.
