Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick has provided an update on the club’s injury situation ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Everton on Monday night.
The Red Devils head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium looking to return to winning ways after their four-match winning run was brought to an end after a 1-1 draw against West Ham United in their last outing.
Two players who missed that clash, Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt, remain unavailable for selection, leaving Carrick to work with the players currently at his disposal.
Mount has endured a frustrating spell with injuries since his move from Chelsea in 2023 and has been sidelined since picking up a knock in training ahead of the clash against Fulham earlier this month.
The England international has missed Manchester United’s last three matches and will sit out Monday’s clash, although a return is very close.
De Ligt, meanwhile, played every minute of the Red Devils’ first 13 Premier League games of the season, but last appeared for them in November.
The Dutch defender is continuing his recovery from a back injury that has proven more serious than initially anticipated and has forced him out of their last 14 matches across all competitions.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, as quoted on the official Manchester United website, Carrick confirmed that both players will not be available for selection.
“Yeah, Mason’s getting closer. I think we’re going to be patient as well, and we have been patient with him, so we don’t want to push anything.
“Matta, a little bit working towards it, but as I said last week, he’s a little bit behind Mason, really, so we’re just trying to work with him, to progress him, to get him a bit closer.”
Manchester United will be hoping to secure all three points as they look to strengthen their push for European qualification.
Victory against Everton on Monday night would lift them back into fourth place and extend their unbeaten start to the league in 2026.
