Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have entered the race to sign Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva, who is out of contract this summer.
The Portuguese midfielder has been tipped to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, with only a few months left on his current contract and no breakthrough reached over an extension.
Silva joined City from French club AS Monaco back in 2017 and has established himself as one of their most important players.
He has made 442 appearances across all competitions since his arrival, scoring 74 goals and playing a key role in their sustained Premier League dominance.
The 31-year-old’s trophy haul includes six league titles, one UEFA Champions League title, and several other major honours, marking a very successful spell in his career.
According to TeamTalk, Atletico Madrid have now joined the pursuit of the Manchester City captain as they look to add quality and experience to their midfield.
The Spanish side are also looking to replace England international Conor Gallagher, who left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur in January.
However, they face stiff competition for Silva’s signature. La Liga rivals Barcelona are long-term admirers of the midfielder, while former club Monaco are keen on bringing him back to the Principality.
Italian giants Juventus are also monitoring the situation closely as they prepare for a major summer rebuild.
Silva’s future is expected to become clearer in the coming months, while his focus remains on helping Manchester City finish the season strongly as they continue their title challenge against Arsenal.
While a stay at City cannot be completely ruled out, the midfielder would be open to a new challenge after spending several years in England.
A move to Atletico Madrid could be on the cards in the summer, as it would also offer him the opportunity to continue competing at the highest level.
