Carlo Ancelotti is set to sign a four-year contract extension with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that will keep him as head coach through the 2030 World Cup.

The paperwork has not been finalised, but the deal is now considered a formality, with an official announcement expected before March 16, when Ancelotti names his squad for friendlies against France and Croatia.

The Italian took charge in May 2025 on an initial 14-month contract worth close to €10 million per season, double what his predecessors Tite and Dorival Junior earned.

He replaced Dorival, who was dismissed in March after 14 months, following poor results that left Brazil’s World Cup qualification in doubt.

ESPN reports that the new deal will not include a salary increase for Ancelotti, who remains the highest-paid national team manager in the world, though members of his coaching staff, including his son Davide, will receive pay raises.

Ancelotti left Real Madrid at the end of the 2024-25 season to take the job, becoming Brazil’s first foreign head coach.

His initial contract included a €5 million bonus if he leads Brazil to World Cup glory in the United States in 2026, along with a clause arranging a friendly between Brazil and Real Madrid at the Bernabéu as a tribute to the club’s most successful manager.

The 65-year-old has won four, drawn two and lost two of his eight matches in charge, scoring 14 goals and conceding five.

He took over for Brazil’s final four qualifying games, winning two, drawing one and losing one to guide them to fifth place in South America’s standings and secure World Cup qualification by June 2025.

Brazil face Morocco, Scotland and Haiti in their 2026 World Cup group, with all matches played in the United States. They have not won the tournament since 2002 and exited at the quarter-final stage in the last two editions.
