Tottenham Hotspur sack Thomas Frank after poor league form

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge, according to English journalist David Ornstein.

The 52-year-old joined the North London club in 2025, replacing Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed despite leading the club to a famous 1-0 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League, ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy.

Despite publicly stating that he had the backing of the club’s hierarchy last month, he has now been relieved of his duties following a disastrous run of results in the Premier League.

Spurs started the season brightly and recorded victories in three of their first four league games. However, they have struggled badly in recent months and have managed only two wins from their last 17 league matches, dropping to 16th place on the standings and just five points above the drop zone.

Frank began his reign with defeat in the UEFA Super Cup final to Paris Saint-Germain and ended with a dismal 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Tuesday night. He won only 13 of his 38 matches in charge, and his Premier League win rate of 26.9% is the worst of any Tottenham manager in history.

Despite their domestic struggles, Spurs performed well in Europe. They finished fourth in the UEFA Champions League after winning five, drawing two and losing just one of their group-phase matches.

In a statement released on the club’s official account on X, Spurs confirmed the decision to part ways with the Dane.

“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position, and Thomas Frank will leave today.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward.

“We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Tottenham will commence the search for their sixth permanent manager since 2019 and have been linked with former manager Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi, who left Olympique Marseille by mutual consent this week.

It remains unclear whether a new appointment will be made before their next Premier League game against Arsenal in the North London derby on February 22.
