Szoboszlai issues update on Liverpool future amid uncertain contract situation

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has issued a fresh update on his future at Anfield amid the huge cloud of uncertainty surrounding his contract situation.

Szoboszlai is currently contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2028, but his impressive form has convinced the six-time UEFA Champions League winners to tie him down to a new deal.

Earlier this season, Liverpool opened talks to extend the Hungarian’s stay at Anfield beyond the duration of his current contract, but the negotiations came to fruition.

Quizzed about the situation recently, Szoboszlai admitted that he would love to stay at Liverpool for much longer, but the decision on his contract extension is not in his hands, literally.

“Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing, from now on, it is not in my hands. It works this way. There is no progression, but if the right offer comes, then let’s see,” he said, per quotes on ESPN.

“Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end. Of course [I want to stay]. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.

“It is not on me. I would love to [stay]. We will see,” the versatile midfielder concluded.

This season, Szoboszlai has been one of the more consistent performers in what has been an up-and-down season for the reigning Premier League champions.

The former RB Leipzig star has registered 15 goal contributions (8 goals and 7 assists) in 33 appearances across all competitions for Arne Slot’s wobbly Reds so far.

Szoboszlai has also displayed an incredible level of versatility in his game this season, with the Hungary international often filling in at right-back for Liverpool this term amid persistent injury setbacks to the likes of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.

He still has two and a half years left on his current contract, so there’s no immediate cause for alarm at Anfield. Nevertheless, both parties will be eager to find a mutually beneficial solution sooner rather than later.
