Former Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been told to leave Real Madrid, despite recent reports emerging from Spain suggesting that manager Alvaro Arbeloa has asked the England international to find himself another club this summer.
Alexander-Arnold joined the 36-time La Liga champions last summer after running down his contract at boyhood club Liverpool but his time at the Spanish capital hasn’t gone according to plan so far.
The 27-year-old established himself as one of the most influential full-backs in world football during a nine-year spell at Liverpool. In over 300 hundred appearances for the Reds, he registered 109 goal contributions (23 goals and 86 assists).
However, Alexander-Arnold has endured a difficult spell since making the switch to Spain with nagging injury setbacks limiting him to just the odd assist in eleven appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos.
This underwhelming spell has given rise to numerous speculations about the future of the England international in Madrid with Catalan news outlet El Nacional reporting on Friday that he had no future at the club under new manager Arbeloa.
The reports claimed that Alexander-Arnold’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu has fallen way below expectations. His performances, on those rare occasions when he’s been fit and available for selection, have not been convincing enough for the decision makers at Madrid.
It further stated that Arbeloa personally had a conversation with the former Premier League star, making it clear that there was no future for him at Real Madrid and asking him to find himself a new club where he could revive his career come summer.
However, Daily Mail Sport has cast aspersions on those reports, insisting that there is no truth to claims as Alexander-Arnold, who continues his recovery from a muscle injury is set to remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer.
Neither Real Madrid, manager Arbeloa nor Alexander-Arnold have made any official comments on the reports as of now.
