Chelsea Leading Race To Sign Yisa Alao From Sheffield Wednesday

Yisa Alao to Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly edging closer to a move for highly-rated Sheffield Wednesday youngster Yisa Alao amid rival interest from two other top Premier League clubs.

Alao, widely regarded as the ‘next big thing’ in terms of left-backs, has shown plenty of promise at Sheffield Wednesday and a number of top clubs, including the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions, are looking to bring the 17-year-old to England’s first division.

Having come through Sheffield Wednesday’s youth setup, Alao already has five senior appearances to his name, including starts in the EFL Championship and FA Cup.

While the frequency of his involvement can be considered modest at best, the youngster has done enough in those games to attract the attention of some of England’s biggest clubs.

Alongside Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are also massive admirers of Alao, with both clubs ready to table a £400,000 bid to acquire the services of the emerging defensive talent.

However, reports from Daily Mail suggest that the Blues have now edged ahead of the competition after promising a higher offer worth £600,000 with substantial bonuses to sweeten the deal.

Alao made his senior debut for Sheffield Wednesday back in August 2025 and ever since, the 17-year-old has played a bit-part role as the Championship strugglers battle the threat of relegation as well as financial uncertainty.

One of the most impressive attributes of this emerging left-back is his composure on the ball. He plays with a level of maturity and confidence not commonly associated with 17 year olds, making him a really attractive prospect.

Another major thing for Alao’s potential suitors will be his ability to drive up that left-hand side of the pitch and involve himself in attacking sequences. His defensive abilities are also not in any question, making him a complete package.

With Sheffield Wednesday apparently on their way to League One after entering administration in October 2025 and consequently receiving an 18-point deduction, they may have no choice but to cash in on one of their brightest talents.
