England and Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham is nearing a move to Aston Villa after just six months in the Turkish Super Lig.
Ollie Watkins is Unai Emery’s only choice in the number nine position after an underwhelming Donyell Malen failed to impress at Villa Park.
The seven-time English Champions are currently seven points behind Arsenal on the Premier League table, and are looking to mount a title challenge. As such, the Birmingham-based club want strength in depth across all positions, at least until the summer transfer window opens for proper business.
Tammy Abraham is currently on loan from AS Roma at Besiktas, but the 28-year-old could be set for an England return in the next few days.
According to Aston Villa News, Unai Emery’s priority heading into the winter transfer window was to sign a striker, and they’ve done that by bringing in 17-year-old Brian Madjo from FC Metz. However, they want experience.
Tammy Abraham previously played for Aston Villa in the Championship on loan from Chelsea before the club gained promotion to the English top flight, and has been in contact with his former side.
According to the report, Villa are now reaching the final stages as the former AC Milan forward has agreed to a Villa Park return till the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Tammy was a cult hero in Villa’s promotion season, scoring 25 goals and providing three assists in 35 EFL Championship games.
Villa have been battling Profit and Sustainability rules for years, and the club owners (NSWE) have been trying to balance things out at Villa Park.
However, due to the new PSR and FFP rules, the club can only spend as much as they make, meaning they’ll have to deal with a loan deal for now and source a permanent solution in the summer.
