Bayern Munich will be looking to continue their strong run of form in the UEFA Champions League when they come up against Union Saint-Gilloise on Wednesday but they head into this clash with some defensive headaches for manager Vincent Kompany.
According to the most recently Bayern Munich injury news update the Bavarians are set to be without the likes of Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey and Josip Stanisic as they prepare to welcome the Belgian Pro League giants to the Allianz Arena on matchday seven of this season’s UCL league phase.
Laimer’s absence definitely comes as a huge blow for Kompany and Bayern Munich. Prior to his current fitness setback, the Austria international has featured in the starting XI for all of the Bavarians’ Champions League games this season.
Unfortunately, he suffered a calf injury during Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Koln in the Bundesliga one week ago and now faces a couple of weeks on the sidelines where he will be looking to recover quickly.
Interestingly, Laimer would’ve still been ruled out of this particular encounter through suspension even if he wasn’t currently out on the sidelines. The 28-year-old has racked up three yellow cards in six matches, entering the referee’s notepad in games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Sporting CP.
For Boey, the Frenchman is currently recovering from a gastrointestinal illness that has ruled him out of action since the turn of the year. Bayern expect him to return in the coming days but Wednesday’s clash against Union Saint-Gilloise will come too soon.
Bayern Munich will also miss Stanisic, who has been one of their best performers since the start of December. The Croatian left-back developed an ankle problem after featuring for 90 minutes in the Bavarians’ 8-1 thumping of Wolfsburg two weeks ago. He is expected to be out till mid-February.
Harry Kane’s deputy, Nicolas Jackson, is another player who will miss Wednesday’s clash. The Chelsea loanee is fresh off winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. He will be sitting this one out due to fatigue.
In a more positive turn of events, Jamal Musiala returned from his long-term spell on the sidelines and marked that comeback with an assist in Bayern’s 5-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig. The German will certainly be in contention for minutes at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich are one of the top contenders for this season’s UEFA Champions League crown. Kompany’s men have played six matches, won five of them and suffered just the odd defeat to Arsenal. Based on current form, they’ll be backing themselves to make it six wins from seven matches on Wednesday.
