English attacker Raheem Sterling might get another shot at playing for a big club, as reigning Serie A giants Napoli have shown interest in acquiring his services.
The past two years have been tough for Sterling at Chelsea. He joined the Blues from Manchester City in 2022 in a deal worth €52.6 million. But he failed to replicate the levels he had previously shown at Manchester City.
The 31-year-old struggled for game time and eventually left for Arsenal on loan at the start of last season, after coach Enzo Maresca brutally informed him that he was surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
However, things did not work out for him at the Emirates. He spent more time on the bench than on the pitch because coach Mikel Arteta did not see him as an important player.
Since he could not cut it there, he then returned to Stamford Bridge last summer. But things have only gotten worse, as he has not even made the matchday squad once this season.
As it stands, there appears to be no way back for him at Chelsea, even with the managerial change. To make things worse, he has not been able to get a move.
Nonetheless, it seems he might get a breakthrough soon. According to Transfer expert Gianluca Dimarzio, Napoli appear to be interested in the English winger, and they might try to sign him soon.
The Partenopei have a very good history dealing with Premier League clubs, so it should not be a difficult task securing his services. Moreover, he is valued at €5 million on Transfermarkt, so Chelsea won’t demand a very high fee.
With just 18 months left on Sterling’s contract at Chelsea, they will be happy to offload him for a decent fee.
