Record La Liga winners Real Madrid parted ways with Xabi Alonso last week after their loss to Barcelona in the Super Copa de España final.
Former Liverpool right back Alvaro Arbeloa was appointed to be in charge of the first team after a spell with Castilla.
Prior to Alonso’s exit, Madrid opened talks with Vinicius Junior about extending his contract beyond 2027, but the Brazilian turned down the offer, largely due to his rift with the former Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger.
The 25-year-old was tipped for an exit if he didn’t renew by May, with Fichajes reporting Madrid had an offer for Victor Osimhen lined up in case Vinicius chose to leave. The club already planned to play Mbappe on the left while Osimhen takes up a central role.
However, things now look promising now that the former Liverpool midfielder is out of the picture. After Real Madrid’s loss to Albacete in the Copa del Rey, it appears Vinicius has had a change of heart.
According to Forbes, the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners are now confident that the former Flamengo man will renew his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In the report, it was noted that Vinicius was aware of his dip in form, and Alonso’s system didn’t get the best out of him. He’s now prepared to keep his head down and get better again, with no better place to be than the Bernabeu.
It is expected that Madrid’s new offer will come with a significant payrise that might see him become the club’s highest-paid player behind Kylian Mbappe.
Vini currently earns €480,000 per week (€25m per annum), while Kylian Mbappe earns €600,000 weekly (€31.25m per annum). A renewal for the Brazilian should limit the wage gap between him and Mbappe.
The pacy winger has scored six goals and provided eight assists across all competitions for Real Madrid this season.
