Musiala Returns From Injury Layoff with Assist as Bayern Munich Get Creative Boost

Bayern Munich’s already devastating attack has received a massive creative boost with the return of German attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala from a long-term injury setback.

Musiala had been confined to the sidelines for over six months after suffering a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle during Bayern’s FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal defeat to European champions Paris Saint-Germain back in July 2025.

At first glance, the injury looked career-threatening but after the 22-year-old underwent an immediate surgery, it was confirmed that he would merely need a considerable amount of time on the sidelines to work his way back to full fitness.

Musiala fully returned to first team training two weeks ago and exactly six months and twelve days after that terrible setback, had his first taste of Bundesliga action this season when he came on as a late substitute in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 thumping of RB Leipzig.

The Germany international replaced compatriot Serge Gnabry in the 87th minute and immediately got in on the action by providing the assist for Bayern’s fifth goal just one minute after his introduction.

What Jamal Musiala’s return means for Bayern Munich

Before breaking his leg, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder was one of Bayern’s go-to men and he enjoyed a wonderful 2024/2025 campaign. Musiala registered 21 goals and eight assists across all competitions, helping Bayern to reclaim their Bundesliga crown.

In his absence, Bayern Munich have remained one of the most impressive teams across Europe’s top five leagues. The Bundesliga champions boast 25 wins from 28 competitive matches this season, scoring over 100 goals in the process.

This works in the favour of both club and player as Bayern boss Vincent Kompany can afford to take his time in easing the German star back into the fold. With no pressure to immediately start delivering the goods, Musiala can also afford to bide his time in getting back to his best form.

While it may take some time to reach his characteristically mesmerizing levels, there’s no doubt that Musiala has all the tools to bounce back strongly and re-establish himself in Kompany’s setup as Bayern look to retain their Bundesliga crown and mount a serious challenge in the UEFA Champions League.

Musiala, who played a key role for Germany at the 2024 European Championship with three goals in five games, will also be hoping that his return from the sidelines can put him in contention for a place in Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad.
