Crystal Palace could be facing the loss of another key asset as striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is said to be open to a new challenge, and with Serie A side Juventus reportedly holding exploratory talks over a potential transfer.
If Juventus are able to reach an agreement for the French striker it would mean that Crystal Palace could be in danger of another stunning mid-season blow.
The Eagles are already on the verge of seeing captain Marc Guehi complete his exit as he is set to join Manchester City, after both clubs agreed a bargain £20million fee for the Palace captain leading to him pulling out of the squad to face Sunderland tomorrow.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner also confirmed his exit at the end of the season on Friday, with the Austrian coach revealing that he would not renew his contract with the club.
The Eagles are now also on the verge of losing their main goal scorer, Mateta, as their winter window shakeup continues.
The French striker enjoyed an impressive campaign in south London, playing a central role in Palace’s attacking resurgence and attracting interest from several European clubs. Juventus are understood to be monitoring Mateta’s situation closely as they assess options to strengthen their forward line ahead of the new season.
Juventus’ interest in Mateta reflects their new recruitment strategy as they look to rebuild with a blend of physicality and experience. The Serie A giants are believed to have opened preliminary discussions with Palace representatives, though no formal bid has yet been submitted.
The coming weeks are likely to be decisive as Palace seek clarity on their future direction as Juventus, and other European heavyweights circle for the striker.
