According to the latest Real Madrid injury news updated, Real Madrid have been dealt a major injury blow in attack and are likely to be without their star Frenchman, Kylian Mbappe, when they welcome La Liga strugglers Levante to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
Los Blancos are still reeling from the shock of their embarrassing Copa del Rey elimination at the hands of La Liga Hypermotion side Albacete and their hope of bouncing back from that defeat has now taken a hit with this latest setback.
Mbappe had been nursing a knee problem since the start of December but only headed for the treatment room towards the end of the month, where Madrid’s medical team confirmed he would be sidelined from action for a three-week period.
With that diagnosis, Mbappe was expected to be ruled out of Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona, but to the surprise of many, he featured off the bench despite the game taking place almost two weeks before his set return date.
That hasty return appears to have caused further complications for the 2018 World Cup winner with Spanish media outlet, Marca, reporting that he’s still experiencing considerable discomfort in his knees.
Consequently, Mbappe will almost certainly be unavailable for the game against Levante where Real Madrid will be keen on registering their first win under the tutelage of new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Spanish giants are hoping their star man will be able to return in time for their Champions League clash against Monaco next Tuesday. But they are also aware that the Frenchman may need a little bit more time to fully recover from his injury.
While Arbeloa will be eager to have his team’s top scorer back on the pitch as soon as possible, he will also be wary of the potential consequences of another hasty return. With this in mind, Mbappe’s time on the sidelines may well extend beyond next Tuesday.
Mbappe joins the likes of Antoine Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Eder Militao on the sidelines. Rudiger suffered a knee injury in Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final victory over Atletico Madrid and remains a major doubt for Saturday’s clash.
Mendy, with only three appearances to his name, is currently out nursing a calf issue while Trent continues to battle for fitness at the Spanish capital after suffering a thigh injury in December. Militao makes up the injury casualties list with a severe hamstring injury set to keep the Brazilian sidelined for at least another couple of months.
Real Madrid are currently second on the La Liga standings and trail leaders Barcelona by four points. With little margin for error in the race for the Spanish top flight title, Arbeloa will be desperate to see these injured stars recover from their issues and return to action as soon as possible.
