Tottenham Hotspur Appoint John Heitinga To Work With Thomas Frank

Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of Dutch coach John Heitinga to work with head coach Thomas Frank.

The North Londoners have been very active this January. They recently confirmed Conor Gallagher’s signing from Atletico Madrid. New left-back Souza is also set to be confirmed in the coming days after his transfer from Brazilian club Santos.

However, their latest deal is the appointment of Heitinga. The 42-year-old tactician joins Spurs with a wealth of experience having handled some significant roles in the last two years. The former Netherlands international enters this role after leaving Ajax where he worked as the head coach until last November.

He also has Premier League experience, as he worked with Arne Slot as an assistant in their league-winning campaign after a previous stint as an assistant at West Ham.

Following his appointment at Tottenham, head coach Frank stated that Heitinga is expected to help improve their defence.

“As a former defender, that will be one of his main responsibilities on the training pitch, and he brings great coaching and management experiences from all levels of the game, which will really help us moving forward,” Frank said.

The Lilywhites have struggled defensively this season, as they have conceded 27 goals in 21 Premier League games, so they will be hoping that they stop leaking goals soon.

Meanwhile, coach Frank is under pressure to start delivering results consistently. He moved to North London after spending nine years at Brentford. At his former club, he was known for his structured play and solid defensive setup.

However, fans are yet to see much of that at Tottenham despite their massive investments in new players last summer. They have been inconsistent and looked really blunt.

The North Londoners are still expected to make one or two signings before the close of the transfer window on January 31.

Spurs currently sit 14th in the top-flight, with just 27 points from 21 games. If they continue to struggle despite all the business that they have done in January, there is a chance that they will part ways with coach Frank eventually.
