English Premier League giants are set to part ways with Argentine attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte in the coming days.
Buonanotte joined Chelsea from Brighton in a season-long loan deal in the summer. The 21-year-old midfielder was initially set to join Leeds United, but the Blues hijacked the deal.
At the time, Chelsea were expected to make the deal permanent by the end of the current campaign. However, that will no longer happen.
The Santa Fe-born player has been a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge. He has featured in just eight games across all competitions this season, with one goal and two assists to his name.
He has been low in the pecking order, with former Chelsea boss preferring to use Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, or Joao Pedro as the creator in midfield. Even with Liam Rosenior’s appointment, it doesn’t seem like Buonanotte’s fortunes will improve soon.
According to new reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Buonanotte is now set to exit Chelsea. This is as the club have reached an agreement with Brighton to cut his loan short. But he won’t stay at the South Coast. Instead, he is set to make another loan transfer to Leeds United.
Coach Daniel Farke is eager to sign a new creative player this January, and they have agreed on terms with Brighton to sign Buonanotte. The Argentine player is expected to make the move in the coming days.
The 21-year-old will likely play an integral role for Leeds as they fight to stay afloat in the Premier League after just gaining promotion last season.
For Chelsea, it is unlikely that any other member of the first team will exit this winter. Players like Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos have been linked with other clubs in recent weeks, but the Blues are expected to hold onto their key players until the summer at least.
