Reigning French Ligue 1 champions are mulling over a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. PSG have one of the best midfield lineups in world football, with stars like Vitinha, Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, and Lee Kang-in. Under coach Luis Enrique, the club has managed to set up a stable squad, and they have trophies to show for it.
However, just like every top European club, they are constantly looking for reinforcements to make the team better and create competition in the squad.
According to Daily Mail, Les Parisiens have now identified Chelsea midfielder Fernandez as a potential transfer target.
The Argentine star has been one of the Blues’ standout players since his €121 million transfer from Portuguese side Benfica in 2023.
He has contributed 24 goals and 26 assists in 145 appearances for the club. Fernandez was also key in the run-up to Chelsea’s triumph in the FIFA Club World Cup last summer. In fact, he has established himself as a leader at the club.
But per Daily Mail’s report, the managerial instability and inconsistent performances at Chelsea have made the 24-year-old unhappy. As such, he could be open to leaving Stamford Bridge.
However, getting Fernandez from Chelsea would be a difficult task. The former River Plate man is seen as a key figure at the club. He also has a contract that runs until 2032, which gives Chelsea the upper hand in any negotiation.
Fernandez is currently valued at €85 million on Transfermarkt. But Chelsea would likely demand a significantly higher fee before sanctioning any deal.
As stated earlier, they paid €121 million to acquire his services just two years ago, and they would want to recoup a significant part of that fee.
If there is no upturn in performances and Liam Rosenior fails to endear himself to the players soon, stars like Fernandez might start pushing to leave in the coming months.
