Morgan Rogers could be on his way to joining 15-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid according to reports.
The 23-year-old took the English Premier League by storm last season, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists for Unai Emery’s side. This season, the Englishman has done one better.
So far, Rogers has scored seven goals and provided four assists in just 20 league games for Aston Villa, and he’s bound to usurp the numbers he accrued last season.
His name is making waves away from home. Many have tipped the ex-Manchester City star to take over the number 10 position in Thomas Tuchel’s team – a huge statement, considering Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer will have to be on the bench if that happens, while players like Eberechi Eze might end up not making the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
Rogers’ club and national teammate, Ollie Watkins, in an interview with Sky Sports, believes the versatile midfielder has what it takes to thrive in a club like Real Madrid.
“He [Rogers] can play in the best teams in the world. He’s shown what he can do. He’s 22. I won’t be surprised if one day he ends up at Real Madrid or something like that.
“What other 22-year-olds are doing what he’s doing in the Premier League? He’s big and powerful. You wouldn’t look at him and say, ‘Oh, he’s 22’.
“He plays like a mature player. So, I can’t speak highly enough of him, to be honest,” Ollie Watkins concluded.
Whether or not Watkins’ statements will spark a summer move from Real Madrid from Rogers is currently unknown, but it is clear that the midfield dynamic at the Santiago Bernabeu needs some work.
In their Super Copa de España final against Barcelona, the midfield trio of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni combined for just 63 passes, a number Pedri alone toppled (83).
It is clear that the midfield needs more work, but Los Blancos are now in murkier waters after parting ways with Xabi Alonso.
As per Real Madrid’s official website, Alvaro Arbeloa will immediately take charge of the first team, having been in charge of the club’s Castilla side since June last year.
