Chelsea Renew Their Pursuit of Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde

Federico Valverde to Chelsea?

Since the summer of 2023, Chelsea have signed and sacked several managers, but their desire for Real Madrid’s star Federico Valverde, has remained undying, even against strong resistance from the Los Blancos. Now under the young and seemingly vibrant Liam Rosenior, the pursuit comes into full display once more as Spanish Publication Fichajes reports that The Blues have submitted a formal £120 million bid to tempt the Uruguayan to Stamford Bridge for the umpteenth time.

Rosenior sees Valverde as the ideal midfield  archetype for a Chelsea side plagued by Injuries, with Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit and available, while summer signing Dário Essugo is yet to make his Premier League debut after battling a thigh problem that has stalled his start in West London.

The strain has left Enzo Fernández,  Moisés Caicedo, Andrey Santos and club captain Reece James carrying too much of the load in midfield for the Blues this season. Once beaten, twice shy, Chelsea now appear wary, keen this time to invest in a midfielder who is not only versatile, but reliable and ready to fire on all cylinders.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan has already carved out a name for himself at Real Madrid, winning 14 major trophies and making more than 340 appearances since arriving at the Bernabéu in 2016. He played a decisive role in the club’s Champions League final victory over Liverpool, providing the assist for Vinícius Júnior’s winning goal in 2022, and is also remembered for the famous professional foul on Alvaro Morata that helped Real Madrid secure the Supercopa earning him the Man of the Match award in the process.

Tactically Fede Valverde is every manager’s dream. He has the technical and physical qualities required to thrive in the ever evolving modern game such as pace, a wide range of passing, powerful ball striking and an indefatigable engine to cover every blade of grass relentlessly. Just as importantly he is known for executing tactical instructions from his gaffer better than his peers.

However, Real Madrid are not interested in selling Federico Valverde, but Chelsea’s offer has not been dismissed entirely, as the size of the bid alone ensures it is being considered, even if reluctantly.

According to Fichajes, Florentino Pérez remains reluctant to take a bite into the cookie, unless the midfielder himself communicates a desire to leave the Bernabéu and for now, that stance has not changed.

Valverde still has three and a half years left on his current contract, and with an estimated transfer value of £114.5 million, second only to Jude Bellingham in Real Madrid’s squad, the club are under little pressure to act.
