Three-time UEFA Champions League winner Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim six days ago after just 14 months of the Portuguese being in charge.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager recorded 25 wins from 63 games, losing 23 and drawing 15, a poor feat for a club of United’s stature. The club’s U-18 manager, Darren Fletcher, was tasked with taking charge of the team for the games against Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ex-United stars – Michael Carrick, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were linked with taking over the Red Devils dugout, with many reporting that there was a possibility of the trio working together till a permanent solution is found in the summer.
According to Sky Sports, the Record English Premier League Champions have tabled a meeting with Michael Carrick for further discussions about a potential appointment, while there’s been nothing of such for Solskjaer or Van Nistelrooy.
The trio have been in charge of the United first team at different points in their career. Ole Solskjaer took charge after Jose Mourinho was fired in December 2018, initially on an interim basis before he was appointed on a full-time basis.
Michael Carrick took over after the Norwegian was fired. He was in charge of three games, winning two games and drawing one.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy also stepped into the fray after Erik Ten Hag was fired. The Dutchman was in charge of four games and walked away after Ruben Amorim was appointed.
As per Sky’s report, the United bosses are yet to make a final decision on who to appoint, but are hopeful of hiring an interim manager before the end of tomorrow.
Manchester United’s director of Football, Jason Wilcox, has held meetings with Solskjaer and Carrick in the past days, and the report confirmed the club were impressed with the plans of the former Middlesbrough coach, rather than the baby-faced assassin.
Whoever is hired will take over from Darren Fletcher, who was unable to secure a win in his two-game spell, drawing to Burnley and losing to Brighton in the FA Cup.
