Borussia Dortmund set sights on Nick Woltemade amid uncertainty over Guirassy’s future

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set their sights on a potential summer swoop for Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade amid uncertainty over the future of current first-choice frontman Serhou Guirassy.

BVB are targeting potential replacements for Guirassy, who has emerged as a target for Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona, and Woltemade is currently one of the names under consideration, according to reports from Bild via Buli News.

Woltemade plied his trade in the Bundesliga as recently as the 2024/2025 season before his 75 million euros transfer from VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle United last summer, and his decent rate of returns at St. James’ Park has kept him on the radar of top clubs across Europe.

While the Germany international has so far shown no indications that he will be willing to consider a move away from the Premier League at the end of the season, his role within the squad in these last weeks of the campaign could change his stance on a potential exit in the summer.

In recent times, Magpies boss Eddie Howe has rotated his frontline more frequently, ultimately translating to less game time for Woltemade.

The 24-year-old striker has also occasionally found himself operating in a much deeper role than he prefers.

If the current trend continues, Woltemade may be inclined to consider a move away from St. James’ Park when the transfer window opens.

Even if it eventually comes to that point, it is unlikely that he’ll leave permanently, with a loan deal appearing to be the most realistic option.

As things stand, Dortmund’s potential move for Woltemade will be contingent on whether Guirassy departs the Signal Iduna Park this summer, while the German striker’s situation at Newcastle for the rest of the season will also influence his decision on a possible move.
