Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly prepared to table offers in excess of €60 million to secure the services of RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a stunning rise since completing a €20 million move from CD Leganés to Leipzig last summer. Less than a year on, Diomande is already regarded as one of the most exciting young attackers in European football.
Diomande wasted little time settling into life in the Bundesliga. In his debut campaign for Leipzig, he has featured in 30 matches across all competitions, directly contributing to 19 goals, a remarkable return for a teenager adapting to a new league and a higher level of competition.
Blessed with electric pace, close control, and an eye for goal, Diomande has proven equally comfortable operating on either flank. His versatility and attacking intelligence have made him a key figure in Leipzig’s forward line.
Unsurprisingly, his market value has soared. Signed for €20 million less than 12 months ago, the winger is now reportedly valued at around €70 million.
As per Hard Tackle, Barcelona are believed to be admirers of Diomande and have already made enquiries about his availability.
The Catalan giants view him as a long-term attacking investment, capable of leading the next generation at Camp Nou.
However, their well-documented financial constraints could prove a major stumbling block. Any move for Diomande would likely depend on player sales, particularly in the attacking department, to free up both funds and squad space.
While their interest is genuine, Barcelona may struggle to compete financially with English opposition prepared to move decisively.
Chelsea see Diomande as an ideal addition to their ongoing rebuild, which has focused heavily on acquiring young players with high ceilings.
The Blues are understood to be willing to meet Leipzig’s valuation, viewing the Ivorian as a long-term asset who fits their recruitment model.
Liverpool, though, may have a decisive advantage. The Reds are also prepared to pay over €60 million, especially with Mohamed Salah expected to depart, leaving a significant void in their wide attacking options.
Crucially, the player himself has previously expressed admiration for the Merseyside club.
“I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a huge Liverpool fan. My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield,” Diomande said during the winter window.
Such comments could tilt the balance in Liverpool’s favour, particularly if negotiations reach an advanced stage. Personal preference often plays a key role in high-profile transfers, and the Reds appear to be firmly in the driving seat for now.
