Premier League duo Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur could clash in the transfer market with both clubs targeting a summer move for Serie A-based defender Tarik Muharemovic.
Muharemovic has emerged as a player of interest for the two English clubs following his impressive performances for Italian Serie A outfit Sassuolo this season.
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the Bosnian defender stems from an obvious need for more quality and depth in the defensive department, given the frailties that have been exposed among their ranks this season.
The Lillywhites could also potentially lose their skipper Cristian Romero, who has been repeatedly linked with an exit from North London, especially following several public outbursts over the club management’s failure to reinforce the squad in previous transfer windows.
For Aston Villa, they’re targeting the 23-year-old in a bid to strengthen their defensive ranks as they push to secure UEFA Champions League qualification ahead of next season.
The Villans also need the injection of fresh blood into their backline, with the likes of Tyrone Mings and Victor Lindelof already into their thirties.
According to reports from Caught Offside, Muharemovic could be available for a fee in the region of 30 million euros, an amount expected to be of no issue for both Tottenham and Villa.
For Sassuolo, sanctioning the sale of the Bosnian defender for that price will see them profit sixfold of their initial investment to sign him from Juventus permanently last summer, so the Serie A side are expected to be open to a deal.
The prospect of moving to the Premier League will certainly be exciting for Muharemovic, but it remains uncertain whether a move will materialise at this stage.
