Manchester United are considering a move for Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from CaughtOffside.
The Red Devils are planning a major squad overhaul in the summer, with changes expected as they aim to return to competing for top honours next season after two disappointing campaigns.
Strengthening the midfield is one of their priority, particularly with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the campaign, bringing an end to his four-year stay at Old Trafford.
There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Manuel Ugarte, who could leave the club in search of a fresh start and regular playing time after struggling to find consistent form.
As a result, the three-time European champions have begun exploring midfield options and have now added Onana to their shortlist.
The Belgian international joined Aston Villa in 2024 following an impressive spell at Everton and has continued his development, establishing himself as a key figure in their midfield. He has made 65 appearances across all competitions for the club since his arrival, including 31 this season.
However, Onana is not United’s only target, and they have other names under consideration, including the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Elliott Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
Villa, meanwhile, may need to sell players this summer to comply with financial regulations and fund their own transfer plans, which could make them lower their asking price for the midfielder to facilitate a transfer.
United could take advantage of the situation to secure his signature, especially if they miss out on their top targets, with the 24-year-old seen as an ideal long-term replacement for Casemiro.
