Mainoo and Harry Maguire close to sealing new Manchester United contracts

Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire in action for Manchester United

Manchester United are closing in on new contract agreements for Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, with both deals now understood to be at an advanced stage.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations with the two England internationals are progressing rapidly, and club chiefs are eager to finalise the agreements before shifting their focus to summer reinforcements.

Manchester United’s hierarchy, led by INEOS, are prioritising internal stability before entering the transfer market.

With both Mainoo and Maguire re-establishing themselves as important figures in the squad, securing their long-term futures has become a key objective.

Romano reports that Mainoo’s talks are “very advanced”, while Maguire’s new agreement is “almost done”, with official confirmation expected once both players return from international duty with England.

The club are aiming to wrap up negotiations before the end of the season.

Mainoo, who has grown into a crucial midfield presence, remains one of the lowest earners in the senior squad, currently on around £20,000 per week. His existing contract runs until June 2027.

Under the proposed new deal, the young midfielder would extend his stay until June 2031, reflecting both his development and the club’s long-term faith in him.

A significant salary increase is also expected as part of the agreement.

Despite facing competition earlier in the campaign, Mainoo has reclaimed a regular starting role and is now viewed as a central pillar in United’s evolving project.

For Maguire, the situation differs slightly. The experienced centre-back has resurrected his United career after a challenging spell, regaining the trust of both the coaching staff and supporters.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, and he remains one of the club’s highest earners on approximately £190,000 per week.

However, reports suggest he is prepared to accept a substantial wage reduction to remain at Old Trafford.

The new agreement is expected to be a one-year extension, pushing his contract to 2027, with the option of an additional season included.

United are keen to conclude both renewals swiftly, allowing them to turn full attention to potential summer signings.

With Mainoo representing the future and Maguire providing experience and leadership, tying down both players signals a blend of long-term planning and short-term stability at Old Trafford.

If finalised as expected, the deals will provide a timely boost as Manchester United look to build momentum heading into a crucial summer window.
