Tottenham Hotspur eyeing Bart Verbruggen as potential Vicario replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as a potential replacement for Guglielmo Vicario ahead of the summer transfer window.

Current first-choice goalkeeper Vicario faces an uncertain future and has been linked with a possible return to Italy, with Inter Milan keen on his signature as they look to replace Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Spurs have already begun preparing for life after the Italian shot-stopper, especially with the form and inconsistency of second-choice Antonin Kinsky.

The Czech Republic goalkeeper had a chance to stake his claim, but endured a difficult outing in the heavy 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg encounter last month, where he lasted only 17 minutes after making two costly errors that resulted in goals.

As a result, Tottenham have begun exploring other options. The North London club have also been linked with Manchester City’s James Trafford, Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson and Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu.

Recent reports from CaughtOffside now suggest that Verbruggen has now been added as another serious target.

The Dutch goalkeeper has impressed since joining Brighton from Anderlecht in 2023 and has made 98 appearances across all competitions for the club.

The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for the Seagulls in the Premier League this season, featuring in every of their 31 matches so far.

However, Spurs will face competition from Bayern Munich, who are also monitoring Verbruggen as they plan to sign a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.

Brighton would be open to a sale if the right offer arrives, although any move from Tottenham will depend on securing their Premier League status.

If they avoid relegation, Spurs are expected to push ahead with plans and they would be getting a Premier League-proven goalkeeper capable of improving the team in the long term.
