Galatasaray leading race for Barcelona’s Christensen

Andreas Christensen Barcelona

Andreas Christensen is heading for the exit at Barcelona when his contract expires this summer, and Galatasaray have emerged as strong candidates to sign the Denmark international on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old centre-back has endured a nightmare spell at Camp Nou since joining from Chelsea in 2022.

Persistent Achilles tendon injuries meant he spent the large part of the 2024/25 season on the sidelines, and the arrival of Marc Guehi and the development of Pau Cubarsí have pushed him further down the defensive pecking order under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are keen to move him on rather than allow him to run down his deal, and Flick has said that a departure is the preferred outcome for all parties.

Per Fichajes, Galatasaray have identified Christensen as a priority target for the summer and are prepared to offer him an attractive package, both sporting and financial, to convince him to make the move to Istanbul.

The Turkish club are looking to reinforce their defence and see an experienced Champions League winner available for nothing as an opportunity too good to pass up.

Christensen won the Champions League at Chelsea in 2021 before his move to Barcelona, and his contract expires at the end of June, leaving him free to negotiate with interested clubs ahead of the summer window.

Barcelona are considering pursuing Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan and could use the defensive reshuffle to free up wages and registration space, making Christensen’s departure a necessary piece of that larger puzzle.

Galatasaray are not the only side monitoring the situation, but they are currently leading the race, and Christensen’s preference to remain in top-level European football rather than move to Saudi Arabia makes Turkey a credible landing spot.
