Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on Bayer Leverkusen youngster Christian Kofane ahead of the summer transfer window, according to TeamTalk.
The highly rated Cameroonian forward only arrived in Germany last summer but has already enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga, scoring seven times and providing eight assists across all competitions.
Kofane also caught the eye during Bayer Leverkusen’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg clash with Arsenal last month, where his pace and physical presence caused serious problems for the Gunners’ defence.
His performances have reportedly impressed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has identified him as a possible target to bolster the club’s attacking options ahead of next season.
The North London side are expected to return to the market this summer as they look to address their inconsistent form in front of goal.
Despite making heavy investment in the likes of Victor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze last summer, Arsenal have struggled for consistency in attack and are eager to build a more dominant squad that will be capable of competing both domestically and in Europe in the long term.
Arsenal are also long-term admirers of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and could turn to Kofane as an alternative if a deal proves difficult.
However, the Gunners will not have a free run at his signature. Several top European clubs, including the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Brentford, are also very interested in sealing a deal in the summer.
Kofane would fit well into Arsenal’s long-term plans, given his age and quality and the Gunners are unlikely to face any major issues negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen to bring the young forward to the Premier League.
