Premier League champions Liverpool have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
Both clubs are in the market for defensive reinforcements as they prepare for next season, but Liverpool currently appears to have the edge in the pursuit of the Brazilian.
The Reds are expected to strengthen their backline following a difficult campaign, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate at the club.
The French defender could depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, with no agreement over an extension so far.
England international Joe Gomez may also be allowed to leave for a substantial amount, as the six-time European champions look to avoid losing another player for free, given that his current contract expires in the summer of 2027.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are also planning defensive additions after another challenging season.
First-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both attracted interest from other top European clubs, raising the possibility of their departures this summer.
According to reports from TeamTalk, Liverpool have now moved ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign Bremer, who is regarded as one of the top defenders in Europe.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Torino in the 2021-22 season, where he was named Serie A’s best defender and was also included in the Team of the Season.
He went on to join Juventus in 2022 and has continued to impress, earning consecutive Team of the Season selections in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.
Bremer reportedly has a €54 million release clause this summer and if a deal is completed, Liverpool would be getting an experienced and reliable defender that would strengthen their backline ahead of the new season.
