Atletico Madrid are reportedly keeping close tabs on Barcelona forward Ferran Torres ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from Fichajes.
The Rojiblancos are keen to strengthen their attack as they look to mount a serious challenge against both Barcelona and Real Madrid for the Spanish La Liga title next season.
One major reason behind their interest in Torres is the imminent departure of Antoine Griezmann, who has agreed to join Major League Soccer side Orlando City at the end of the season, according to our previous reports.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Julian Alvarez, who has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea, while Barcelona are also monitoring his situation.
The potential departure of the Argentine would further increase their need to act in the transfer market in search of a replacement.
Atletico Madrid’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, is believed to be pushing strongly for a move to sign Torres. Alemany was involved in bringing the 26-year-old to Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021 and sees him as an ideal fit for Atletico’s system.
Torres has played his part in Barcelona’s success in recent years, but could be open to leaving the club at the end of the season in search of more consistent playing time elsewhere.
With his contract running until the summer of 2027, the Spanish champions could also sanction a sale to avoid losing him for free later on, while also generating funds to support their summer transfer plans.
