Real Madrid weigh up move for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong

Spanish giants Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of a move for young defender Josh Acheampong from Chelsea, once the summer transfer window opens.

The 15-time European champions are expected to strengthen their squad at the end of the season, as the potential departure of experienced defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger could leave them depleted at the back.

Both players are nearing the end of their contract and could leave at the end of the season, and while there are plans for a short-term extension for Rudiger, no agreement has been finalised.

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Real Madrid are now considering making a move for Acheampong, as part of their long-term project to build a young squad capable of competing for major honours.

The Chelsea academy graduate made his senior breakthrough in 2024 and has had to be patient for game time.

This season, he has featured 24 times in all competitions, including 12 appearances in the Premier League, although most of those outings have come as a substitute.

The Blues view Acheampong as a key part of their future and are reluctant to let him leave, although that stance could change during the summer transfer window with growing interest across Europe.

Real Madrid are expected to face competition from Premier League champions Liverpool and German side Borussia Dortmund for the signature of the 19-year-old.

While a deal may not be straightforward, a move cannot be ruled out, especially if Acheampong decides to seek more regular playing time, while the appeal of joining a club like Real Madrid could also prove difficult to ignore.

If a transfer does happen, the Spanish giants would be securing a promising young defender with the potential to strengthen their backline for years to come.
