Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer window, according to TalkSport.
The Magpies are expected to enter the market for a new centre-forward as they look to push back into the Champions League spots next season and also find a proper replacement for Alexander Isak, who joined Premier League champions Liverpool in a British-record £125 million deal last summer.
The 2025 EFL Cup champions brought in Nick Woltemade from German club Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford last summer, but both players have never truly lived up to the hype.
Woltemade’s early promise has faded, and he has managed just one goal in 2026, while Wissa has struggled with injuries and has scored just three times across all competitions. As a result, much of the team’s attacking output has come from the wings and the midfield.
To solve this, Newcastle are now looking to revive their interest in Delap, having previously tried to sign him from Ipswich Town last summer before he joined Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring just twice in 31 appearances across all competition and has found himself behind Joao Pedro in the pecking order.
Chelsea could be open to letting Delap leave at the end of the season as they look to recoup their investment, especially with interest building from other Premier League clubs.
Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon striker Luis Suarez and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke as alternative options if a deal for Delap doesn’t go through.
Delap’s Premier League experience makes him an attractive option for Newcastle, while the move would offer him the chance to play regularly and get his career back on track.
