Myles Lewis-Skelly is 19 years old, has a new long-term contract at Arsenal and is regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in European football, but none of that has stopped the questions about his future from growing louder by the week.
Lewis-Skelly had a breakthrough season in 2024/25 under Mikel Arteta, playing 39 games across all competitions and earning his first England senior call-up in the process. This season has been a completely different story.
The arrival of Piero Hincapie on loan from Leverkusen and the return to fitness of Riccardo Calafiori have pushed him to third choice at left-back, and he has made just one Premier League start since January.
He has not played a single league minute since Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool on January 8.
His frustration is understood to be genuine, and according to Football Insider, he could push for a summer exit if the situation does not change.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid have moved to the front of the growing queue of clubs monitoring Lewis-Skelly’s situation, with Diego Simeone keen to add a dynamic, young left-sided profile to his squad ahead of next season.
Arsenal have reportedly set a €50 million asking price, though the Spanish club are unlikely to meet that figure without significant negotiations.
Real Madrid have also been keeping tabs on him, and several Premier League clubs, including Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham, have been linked with loan moves.
Arteta views Lewis-Skelly as a long-term asset at the Emirates, and the club are reluctant to sell. A loan deal that guarantees him regular first-team football is the more likely outcome for the summer, with Arsenal wanting assurances over playing time before approving any temporary arrangement.
