Inter Milan set sights on Genoa defender Leo Ostigard ahead of summer transfer window

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly preparing for a defensive rebuild this summer, with Norwegian central defender Leo Ostigard emerging as a key target ahead of the transfer window.

Inter are expected to make changes at the back, with experienced defenders such as Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian, and Francesco Acerbi all nearing the end of their current deals and unlikely to remain at the club beyond this season.

As a result, the Nerazzuri have begun identifying potential replacements, with Ostigard now firmly on their shortlist, according to a recent report from Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908.

The Norway international is viewed as a practical option, both in terms of his experience in Serie A and his relatively modest valuation, which is believed to be around €12 million.

The 26-year-old has impressed in his second stint at Genoa so far, establishing himself as a reliable presence in defence while also contributing in attack.

His tally of five league goals is a testament to his threat from set-pieces, while his physicality and ability to adapt to different defensive systems make him the dream of many managers.

Ostigard’s familiarity with Italian football is another factor working in his favour.

After initially joining Genoa from Stoke City in the 2022 winter window, he improved enough to earn a move to Napoli just six months later. During his time in Naples, he played a significant role in the club’s historic Serie A title-winning campaign.

That combination of experience and affordability makes him an attractive option for Inter as they prepare for a transitional period at the back.

While no formal move has been made yet, the Serie A leaders are expected to step up their interest in the coming months.
